Good customer service goes a long way, but one hotel manager at the St Regis Aspen in Colorado never fails to be a hit with visitors.
Meet Kitty Jacob Astor IV – Kitty for short – the Bernese Mountain Dog who can always be found greeting guests, wandering through the hotel halls keeping an eye on things, and even helping tuck guests into bed!
Oh, and of course he can also be found wandering through the snowy landscape with his friends and owners, checking the ski conditions are just right.
Kitty has quickly become an institution at the hotel since joining the staff in September 2018. He’s even named after the St Regis Hotels’ founder John Jacob Astor IV, who had a dog named Kitty in 1904.
He was officially announced at the hotel’s Tree Lighting Ritual during the festive season, where Santa delivered him as a gift to the community!
But he’s much more than just a local celebrity nowadays, having already garnered over 40,000 followers on his Instagram account where plenty of his adventures are shared with fans.
In fact, he’s no stranger to the spotlight. A hit with locals and visitors alike, Kitty even took time out of his busy schedule once for an interview with the Aspen Soujourner.
During the chat, he revealed the spots on the hotel grounds where you will often find him: “The fountain courtyard – I love jumping into the snow around the trees and bushes and snatching up s’more crumbs around the firepits.
“I also like to greet guests in front of the hotel and then run a few laps around the elk statues. (I thought those things were real at first!) Plus, those luggage carts with the wheels are so fascinating.”
There’s more good news for guests too as Kitty isn’t the only dog who’s welcome at the hotel.
In fact, the luxury property is pet-friendly and offers plenty of dedicated services including pet-sitters for when you want to hit the slopes or go celebrity-spotting in Aspen, as well as dog walkers on hand and even a Dog Bed and Dog Bowl rate.
