Almost 28 million passengers are expected to cruise this year, up from 26 million in 2017. As cruising continues to grow in popularity, Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), the world’s largest cruise industry trade association, has proclaimed October as #ChooseCruise Month.
The initiative, formerly known as Plan a Cruise Month, will feature the best deals and promotions along with the latest industry news all across CLIA’s social channels.
“This campaign is a way to highlight the many reasons why travelers should choose a cruise for vacation,” said Cindy D’Aoust, CLIA president and CEO. “Cruise travel can offer experiences and adventures that are unique to each guest, giving them the chance to check off bucket list items in a fun and carefree way.”
Cruising has changed so much over the past few years, and it’s no wonder cruise passengers often become repeat guests.
Here are just a few reasons why you should consider a cruise:
Cruises are about the journey and the destinations. You’d be hard-pressed to find another mode of transportation that’s as comfortable and service-oriented as a cruise ship.
Wake up in a different place each morning but only unpack once. Traveling to multiple destinations on a single trip is a great way to maximize vacation time but the planning and hassle of different hotels and flights can be stressful. Checking in to your resort at sea gives you the best of both worlds.
Cruise on the river or ocean. Whichever you prefer, there’s a ship for you. River ships (and cabins) are smaller, they cover less ground and stay closer to land. You should really experience both.
Check off your bucket list destinations. According to CLIA, 95% of travel agents say they’re seeing a rise in new cruise destinations because travelers tell them they want to check off places on their bucket lists. Alaska is the top growth destination in the cruise industry, followed by Caribbean/Bermuda/Mexico, Mediterranean Europe and Canada/New England.
Check off your bucket list experiences. Not only can you cruise to the destinations of your dreams but you can experience the adventures you’ve always wanted to do once you get there, from dog sledding to zodiac expeditions. Again, Alaska tops the list for adventure cruisers, with the Galapagos, South Pacific and Antarctica also favorites. These are not your grandparents’ cruises!
Celebrate wellness. Although epic buffets remain a mainstay of cruising, there are more healthy options than ever before, with plenty of gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan choices. You can work off the extra calories in onboard gyms and jogging paths, or on bikes and hikes when you’re ashore.
Enjoy adventure by day and luxury by night. Cruises are known for pampering passengers at every level. You can opt for suites and but, even if you don’t, you’ll be treated royally with endless, delicious food, impeccable service and onboard spa treatments. What could be better than filling your days with adventures, then coming back to have someone prepare you a meal of your choice before you fall asleep in a cozy bed already turned down for you?
